Laser Fleet AGM – Wednesday 8th August
The 2018 Laser Fleet AGM will be held on Wednesday 8th August in the top bar after Wednesday evening sailing and dinner. Do please try to attend to have your say about laser sailing at Grafham.
Call for new laser fleet captain – volunteers please!
After two years in the role as laser fleet captain, I am taking a break from sailing to focus on starting a family. So we have a vacancy for laser fleet captain which will be voted on at the AGM on 8th August. Please consider putting yourself forwards. It is a great way to get to know the laser fleet and other fleets and learn lots about the organisation of racing. So what’s involved?
- Representing the laser fleet’s views at the quarterly Race Committee meeting
- Communicating important news with the fleet via the occasional email
- Responding to a small number of enquiries from potential new members about sailing lasers at Grafham
- Organising any training or socials as the fleet requires
It isn’t too onerous and is rewarding so do think about stepping up. As a member-led club we rely on our volunteers to keep things running smoothly. If you are interested, please let me know and I’m happy to answer any questions. I was worried I didn’t know enough about racing rules to do this job but that didn’t turn out to be an issue at all. Anyone who actively participates in racing at the club would be well qualified for the role.
Supporting new racers and etiquette on the water
It has been fantastic to see a number of improving racers joining the Wednesday and Sunday racing. Welcome to you all!
And just a quick reminder from the Racing Committee to all fleets to everyone to please keep it civil on the water. There have been a few incidents where sailors’ behaviour has not been what we expect at the club. Racing is supposed to be fun so let’s keep it competitive but polite.
Best wishes and happy sailing in the lovely summer weather!
