Racing takes place every Sunday throughout the year and on Wednesday evenings from April to September. Races are organised into ‘series’ spanning 10 Sundays and 21 summer Wednesdays. The winning crews in each series are those with the best cumulative performances. There are detailed differences between the two series (Sunday Series and Wednesday Evening Series) which are described in the following web pages and in formal Notices of Race and Sailing Instructions:
Flying Fifteens, Lasers and D-Zeros race as one-design fleets on Sundays. Results for all other classes (and all boats on Wednesdays) are computed from average lap times, corrected using a local handicap system. Click through to view dinghy and catamaran handicaps in use at Grafham.
In addition to series racing, there are a number of ‘one-off’ club events, notably:
- the Club Championship for the Duke of Edinburgh Trophy (usually sailed in September)
- a Pursuit Race to conclude the Wednesday Evening Series (usually on the first Wednesday in September)
- a Christmas Pursuit Race on the morning of the annual Christmas lunch.
On Friday evenings from May to August, we run “Friendly Fridays” and on Saturday afternoons throughout the summer we offer “Sociable Saturdays“. These activities are intended tor those who want to develop their sailing and racing skills, but maybe aren’t ready for the full “cut & thrust” of Sunday and Wednesday racing.
In its second season after a successful introduction in 2017, we have the Tower Dash which is a timed sail from the Club foreshore, around the Tower, and back to the Club foreshore. Follow link for the Tower Dash Sailing Instructions.
