Monday 9th August
The group were briefed by coaches Matt and Mandy about the week and told which groups they would be in for day1. On the agenda today is stand up paddleboarding and working on sailing skills. Group 1 set off with SUP instructor Lisa, while the other three groups launched their dinghies to work on their sailing skills.
The weather was cloudy and several times ominous banks of dark clouds rolled in. These turned into short but torrential downpours, so those who hadn’t already got wet by falling off SUPs or capsizing were soon as wet of those who had.
By the end of the afternoon all the kids were buzzing and all the coaches were exhausted.
Tuesday 10th August
Today windsurfing was the order of the day, with groups of 8 at a time being taught the basics by Angus and Tim. As the wind was offshore, the safety boats were kept busy towing people back towards the shore. The groups who were not windsurfing were again practising their sailing and racing skills.
After lunch the whole group lined up for a group photo in the sunshine. The wind had fallen light and those who weren’t having a turn at windsurfing headed out for some water-based games including ball games. The final game of the afternoon, and the most popular, was ‘capsizing’.
Wednesday 11th August
Today the sun was shining and there was a nice breeze so it was a good chance to take the ‘big boats’ out. In teams of three, the sailors got a chance to sail the Stratos or the 22000 and practice some spinnaker handling.
